Phase 1: Intention
Envision
- Develop a goal for what you want to achieve from the experience.
Education
- Access comprehensive information about the chosen psychedelic substance, its effects, and potential risks.
Mindfulness
- Learn and practice mindfulness techniques to enhance present moment awareness and non-judgmental observation of experiences.
Phase 2: Ceremony
Set and Setting:
- Create a supportive and safe environment for the psychedelic experience.
- Pay attention to physical comfort, lighting, and music to facilitate a positive and meaningful experience.
Intention Setting:
- Set intentions for the psychedelic session that align with your therapeutic goals and values.
- Encourage to explore your inner experiences, emotions, and thoughts, and to approach them with acceptance and openness.
Ritual:
- Remember the initial goal of what you want to see from the experience.
- Take the medicine with the goal in mind and stay present during the psychedelic session
- Utilize ACT-informed techniques such as breathwork, meditation, or body awareness exercises to enhance the therapeutic process.
Phase 3: Integration
Processing the Experience:
- Engage in your journal to help make sense of and integrate your psychedelic experience.
- Encourage yourself to explore emotions, insights, and challenges that emerged during the session.
Cognitive Defusion:
- Introduce cognitive defusion techniques to help yourself create distance from unhelpful thoughts and beliefs.
- Practice exercises to defuse from thoughts and develop a more flexible relationship with yourself.
Acceptance and Willingness:
- Assist yourself in cultivating acceptance and willingness to experience difficult emotions or sensations that may arise during integration.
- Encourage to make room for these experiences without judgment or attempts to control them.
Values-Based Action:
- Help yourself identify values-aligned actions they can take in your daily life.
- Support yourself in setting goals and taking steps toward living in accordance with your values.
Mindfulness and Present Moment Awareness:
- Reinforce and continue mindfulness training, incorporating regular mindfulness practice into yourself daily life.
- Encourage yourself to maintain present moment awareness and apply mindfulness skills to navigate challenges and make values-based choices.
Ongoing Therapy:
- Provide ongoing therapy sessions to support the integration process and reinforce the gains made during psychedelic-assisted therapy.
- Utilize ACT interventions and techniques to further enhance psychological flexibility and promote well-being.
